War veterans, WW11 re-enactors, 1940s’ singers and supporters of the Dame Vera Lynn’s Children’s Charity will gather beneath an enormous purpose built structure on the White Cliffs of Dover. This structure will feature three huge blue birds as immortalised by our forces sweetheart in the iconic and fiercely optimistic lyrics of The White Cliffs of Dover.

A pair of original war-time Spitfires will do a rare fly-over and display above the cliffs, and WWII re-enactors will perform a military salute in order to mark the national treasure’s milestone birthday.

Dame Vera Lynn said:

“I can’t believe everyone is going to so much trouble to wish me a happy birthday – I feel incredibly humbled by it all.”

The spectacle comes just two days after a star-studded event at the London Palladium, held in celebration of Dame Vera’s birthday, from which proceeds went to her children’s charity.

When asked what’s on her birthday list, Dame Vera said:

“I don’t need anything at all, I just ask that the wonderful people of Britain are as generous as possible towards my charity, who do much-needed work for children under five with cerebral palsy, and their families.”

Pilar Cloud, Executive Manager at the Dame Vera Lynn’s Children’s Charity, said:

“Dame Vera is such a special lady who has spent her life helping others.  From keeping the troops’ spirits up during the war to the work she continues to do today, helping families of young children with cerebral palsy, her efforts for others are never-ending.

“It’s typical of her that for her special birthday Dame Vera is asking for charity donations rather than gifts for herself – it was her selfless actions that first captured a nation’s heart seventy years ago and continues to do so today.”

Dame Vera Lynn and her charity would like to give special thanks to Matchboard MDF for creating the bluebird structure, Heritage Scaffolding for erecting the structure, and Barry Williams at Regency Independent Financial Advisors for sponsoring the Spitfires.
