London Southend Airport ranked ‘good’ in accessibility survey

London Southend Airport has been ranked ‘good’ in the annual Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) review of accessibility at UK airports for disabled passengers and those with mobility restrictions.

The report, which is published today (11 August 2017), says to achieve ‘good’ an airport must “demonstrate that they value this aspect of the customer service. They have regularly consulted with people that use the assistance service, asking them what they need to do to design it to meet their needs; their staff are regularly praised by passengers for their understanding and patience; and the assistance is efficient and well organised, meaning delays are minimal.”

Comments from the 15 London Southend passengers who took part in the survey included “Everyone was so helpful and accommodating, great service – very grateful,” “Check in at the disabled desk was excellent and very speedy with the minimum fuss” and “From departure to boarding, excellent care and consideration.”

Glyn Jones, CEO at London Southend Airport said “Whilst it is pleasing to be ranked ‘good,’ that is not good enough for us. We want to be ranked amongst the best performing airports in the UK and receive the top ‘very good’ rating in 2018. “

He addedWe pride ourselves on the service with give our passengers at London Southend – we know the importance of listening to customers and giving them what they want. From a performance perspective, we have achieved and significantly bettered many of the targets set by the CAA on waiting times for assistance, but this review has also given us some excellent, constructive feedback of ways we can do things better to make air travel as smooth and stress free as possible for our passengers who are disabled and those who have mobility restrictions. We will be acting on this feedback as priority, in particular looking to increase our engagement with external disability groups to help better educate airport staff to understand passenger’s needs and assist appropriately.”
