Summer Flying Fun

Steve Smith over the Missouri River
Steve Smith, of Santa Rosa, California, called us a couple of weeks ago to say he’d be passing by the Zenith Aircraft kit factory in Mexico, Missouri, on his way to Maryland on the east coast. Steve was flying his low-wing Zenith CH 601XL-B (forerunner to the Zenith CH 650), following major waterways wherever possible along his entire route across the country

IFR _ _I Follow Rivers_
If you look at the map you’ll see that the route is not very direct! But if you’re flying because you love to be in the air and are enjoying the scenery, the direct route is not necessarily the best route, and following rivers offers some very scenic views with historic towns along the way.
Landing on the sandbar
As Steve was nearing central Missouri, Sebastien and Roger from the Zenith Aircraft factory flew to meet him in the air, flying the new Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty (and were joined by Dennis in his STOL CH 701). They landed on a river sandbar while waiting for Steve to arrive (who was flying the slow way – following the meandering Missouri River).
As seen from Steve_s plane
Steve decided not to land on the soft sandbar due to the smaller wheels of the Zenith low-wing.  The three Zenith planes continued on together along the river to Jefferson City (state capitol) for lunch.
Flying air-to-air over the river
Whether flying the low wing Zenith or the high-wing Zenith STOL CH 750 Super Duty, all Zenith aircraft models offered spectacular visibility!

Steve continued on his way eastward after lunch, down the Mississippi River and up the Ohio River, arriving at his eastern destination (Frederick, Maryland) the following day.

Zenith Open House
In contrast to our annual late summer Open Hangar Days on September 21 & 22 (over two days with scheduled workshops and forums), the June event is an informal morning fly-in, with no specific scheduled activities.
ZENITH WORKSHOPS
Attending the hands-on workshop at the Zenith Aircraft kit manufacturing factory in Mexico, Missouri, is the easiest way to get started on your very own airplane! Plan now to join us at an upcoming Spring workshop:
Hands on fun and education_

Zenith Aircraft Company’s factory workshops have become popular with sport aviation enthusiasts, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in building their own Zenith Aircraft kit plane. Participants get to actually start assembling kit parts under the direction and guidance of factory professionals, and “graduate” from the workshop upon completing construction of their own aircraft rudder tail section for one of Zenith Aircraft Company’s popular kit aircraft designs, including the Zenith CH 650 cruiser or the high wing Zenith CH 750 series.

Hands on aircraft building experience

The factory workshops make an excellent getaway for you and your spouse or a friend! Spend a couple of days at the Zenith Aircraft factory and meet with fellow aviation enthusiasts – all while gaining valuable hands-on building skills. A demo flight is part of the factory workshop experience in a Zenith factory demo airplane!
