JAXA and Boeing sign collaboration agreement

February 1, 2019 (JST)

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and The Boeing Company
have signed a collaboration agreement to conduct future aviation
research. The agreement will focus on the development of new
aviation technologies.

Since 2009, JAXA and Boeing have been working together to advance
the research and development of future technologies for aviation.
This collaborative relationship includes joint research projects.

Currently, JAXA and Boeing are researching a clear-air turbulence
detection system to better detect and avoid weather disturbances
to improve flight. In 2018, JAXA's clear-air turbulence detection
system was installed and tested as part of Boeing's ecoDemonstrator
flight-test research program.

The agreement deepens the relationship and opens up new opportunities
to explore other areas for collaborative research.
