Happy 98th Fl.Lt. Des Curtis DFC

Happy Birthday Fl.Lt. Curtis DFC

Long term supporter and honorary life member Flight Lieutenant Desmond Curtis DFC turned 98 on July 16th.

Des was a navigator in 618 Squadron, practising to use the highball bouncing bomb against targets like the Tirpitz. Then later was in 248 Squadron flying the Mosquito Mk.XVIII ‘Tsetse’ with its 57mm anti-tank gun engaged in low level strike operations against U-boat targets in the Bay of Biscay.

An absolute gent, and his wartime experiences are shared in his book ‘A Most Secret Squadron’. Which can be found in our online store.

New comments from recent donations:

My Dad Flight Lieutenant Charles Vernon Pereira , DFC and Bar, Flew Mosquitos for 139 Squadron and 105 Bomber Command and Pathfinder Force mainly based at Marham. He completed 2 tours of duty and 80 sorties, his noteable raid was JENA

Thank you for undertaking this project. I look forward to seeing and hearing my favourite WWII aircraft back in the skies again.
